Citation Management
Mendeley
The first two guides in the Mendeley Help box at bottom left explain how to use Mendeley’s two platforms – Mendeley Desktop and Mendeley Reference Manager (web-based) that work roughly in tandem. The advanced guide shows how to use the write-and-cite feature, using the Cite-o-matic plugin, that draws its citations from Mendeley Desktop.
However, Mendeley Desktop is no longer available for download after September 1, 2022. It can still be used by those who installed it before this date, but will be phased out in the long term at a date yet to be determined.
Hence, users downloading Mendeley from September 1, 2022 can only install Mendeley Reference Manager.
Mendeley Reference Manager works in conjunction with a new Microsoft Office add-in for writing and citing called Mendeley Cite. The add-in can be installed on a personal device without intervention from MUN’s ITS unit. If you are trying to install Mendeley Cite on a Memorial device, you will need to contact the ITS Service Desk to get it enabled, and you will likely require their assistance as the process is not straightforward.
Mendeley Cite is compatible with:
- Windows: Word 2016, Word 2019, Office 365
- MacOS: Word 2016, Word 2019, Office 365
- iOS: Microsoft Word for iPad
- Web versions: Word Online, Office 365
For information on using the add-in, view this guide to Mendeley Cite, or the third guide in the Mendeley Help box to the left.
