General Format
Note that your instructor may request additional formatting beyond the MLA Style guidelines. Check with your instructor and review assignment details before formatting. See a sample MLA Style paper from the Online Writing Lab at Purdue University.
Overall formatting
- MLA Style papers should be formatted with 1" margins on all sides, in a clear, readable font (12 pt Times New Roman is recommended).
- Each paragraph should be indented 0.5".
- Create a header with you last name and the page number in the top-right corner of each page.
The first page
- Do not make a title page unless requested.
- In the top-left corner, list your name, the instructor's name, the course, and the date, each on separate rows, double spaced.
- Double space and type the title of the paper, centred, in Title Case.
- Double space before the first line of the body text.
